Say nothing …

Today.

Home.

*

I spent the weekend in a little cabin in the woods.  There was firelight.  There were books.  There was wine and good food, and better company.

I walked in a woods dusted with snowflakes, over a carpet of furry wet ferns.

I rested.

And I come away from that time with a renewed respect for silence — for sitting still and making space for the magic.

In response to that, I’ll be implementing a new feature here on the blog:  Wordless Wednesdays.  If you’re a reader who’s new to WordPress, please know that I’m not the first to come up with the idea; in fact, there are many great bloggers sharing beautiful images, sans explanation, at the midpoint of every week.  But the photos I post here will be (as always) my own.

I’ll try to share shots that strike me as provocative, but which I can’t yet pin down into language (and maybe I don’t want to).  If you’d like to respond to them or build on them in some way, feel free to do so in the comments section.  Or don’t…

Either way, I hope you find space to take a breath and drink in some wonder. ❤

    1. I so agree.

My life has been extra-full lately: filled to the brim with many good people and activities. I love every minute of that, but I’m learning it’s so important for me to draw away from time to time, reflect and readjust as necessary.

It’s reassuring to hear I’m not alone in feeling that way. Thank you. 🙂

  1. That feeling of detaching from society from time to time, is exactly what i’m looking for and started writing about. Ironically i’m writing about it in a social blogging platform.

I’m on a 1000 trip quest to Everest, and i’m definitely going to adopt the Wordless Wednesday =]

hope you have a chance to check out my blog 😉

  2. I adore the quiet and I endeavor to get at least a little quiet every day. Those around me who are less introverted sometimes don’t understand, but that’s alright. 🙂 I love your Wordless Wednesday idea – I can’t wait to see more of your photos!

    1. I love that goal, Calista: a little quiet every day. :). I think that’s beautiful for introverts, extroverts, and everybody who falls someplace in between. 🙂

Here’s to being comfortable with silences — and to believing that the magic has a way of filling them. 🙂

      1. Yes! Being comfortable with silence is something that seems so rare for some. There’s always the tv or audio books or the radio or ipods…something to keep from thinking about things that are uncomfortable or maybe thinking too hard about everything all at once. Here’s to being comfortable and learning to love the magic. 🙂

  3. Refreshing! I’m also coming to the realization that I need to build some space for stillness and silence in my filling-up life. There’s no way to appreciate the vibrancy and abundance of the fullness without it.

It makes me smile to know that you had such a centering, wholehearted weekend. Welcome back!

    1. Lulu, you perfectly put into words the way I’ve been feeling lately: without the stillness, there’s no way to appreciate the vibrancy and abundance of the fullness. Yes. Thank you for helping me understand that a little better. Grateful for you. 🙂

    1. You know, I’ve never tried air b’n’b, although I have a friend who absolutely swears by it. I think I’m going to make a go of it soon… I’ve stayed in (actual) b&bs for years now … So much more personal than chain hotels, which always make me feel lonely somehow, although I can’t explain why.

Sounds like you do your share of traveling. What’s next on your list? 🙂

            1. Yes! Please do. I have a little collection of bloggers I follow who satiate my hunger for other places — especially this time of year, when the world is so cold and gray. You’re one of the collection! 🙂

              1. Thank you “Alpha Zulu”. I wll keep that in mind for my next post. (Which is almost done – in my head – my problem is to squeeze in the two hours or so I need to write, polish and post… 🙂

              2. Depends on the day. Most of the time not more than 20 minutes. But of course, a lot is going on in my head all the time, which eventually comes out on the screen. And then too, I spend plenty of time wandering in the woods with a camera — which is time well-spent, to me. Just as important as any other type of work. 🙂

              3. Indeed one spends some time prior “mulling” about the post. (It’s the way I write fiction). But 20 minutes actual posting/writing time is good. I need to work on that. Otherwise I can’t find the time to post more. 🙂
                (How’s the snow?)

              4. Yes. Mulling. Do you write any fiction in English??

Snow’s still here. Lingering. I get tired of it quickly, and spend February and March longing for Spring. But it’s beautiful just the same, and if I go out in it, shooting, I can find ways of appreciating it.
