    1. Yes! I grew up in the Great Dismal Swamp, which is literally crawling with poisonous snakes. They are pretty much everywhere, and as a kid, I couldn’t imagine running through the woods without keeping an eye on the trail at all times.

I love owls, particularly the little ones. Always have. 🙂 They strike me as quite otherworldly.

      1. They are. And so cute. (The little owls) But in Europe they’re almost extinct. Too many pesticides. And about snakes, I’ve seen my fair share in Africa, but also in the woods in the South. I too keep an eye on the trail. 🙂

        1. Ah, I love that you read up on it! It’s a truly ethereal place. Somber, but hauntingly beautiful. And so outrageously wild and green. 🙂

          I miss it often.

It would make a *great* setting for a short story. 🙂

              1. The ground where I live now is, actually, fairly stony and hard (especially in winter)! The bones of the mountains are always just under the soil.

At home in the swamp, there’s hardly any ground at all! Just water, water, water … About two to four feet deep for miles on end.

I’ll have to dig up some pictures sometime … They are sure to be somewhere. 🙂
