Every once in awhile, this magical thing happens to me.
I’ll be plowing through my day, hurried and tense, when suddenly I’ll stumble over a little loveliness, left behind by my past self.
It’s like a gift, really: the rose petal pressed between two pages. The poem scribbled on a cocktail napkin, tucked in my coat pocket.
Today though, I found a gift on the memory card of my beat-up old Canon Rebel:
I don’t know how it happened, but I must have forgotten to load a set of photos from last Fall, because when I plugged in my camera cable and flicked my Rebel on to download new material, a sudden wash of yellow blazed across the screen — the unmistakable colors of Autumn.
I was a little sad back then: my heart still raw over a dear friend who’d hurt me. But an aching heart is good for art — every artist knows that — because it’s hungry for the Light.
*
(And when it comes to the Light, hungry is a good thing to be.)
*
I still remember taking these shots: in a sudden fit of frustration, I’d pulled the lens off my camera and simply held it in place, letting the light leak through.
The result is a series of unedited shots that look like watery Impressionist brushstrokes, washed with sun, messy and soft:
And I needed messy and soft today…
Maybe you do, too. ❤
Oh yes, these are amazing, really soft and beautiful shots, like something out of an impressionists painting. Glad you were inspired to find them. 🙂

So true!! Much of seeing beauty in the world is just approaching our everydays differently, I think.
It’s truly in the eye of the beholder, as the saying goes. 🙂

what a beautiful way in which you described the images….there is slight imperfection in those pictures which gives them a real and raw quality…a perfect picture always record imperfections because nothing is perfect…you description was amazing, it took me to your early time which you mentioned..
thank u

Welcome, Ashik! Are you new to WordPress? I think you’ll find it’s a welcoming community with space for everyone. 🙂
If I had to give any tips, I’d say: don’t worry too much in the beginning about your number of followers or likes. Just be yourself, visit the blogs you love, comment and interact sincerely, and be kind. It’s supposed to be fun, and I think when you take an approach that’s genuine and not forced, it is! 🙂
Hope you enjoy your new season as a blogger newbie!

These are beautiful, gentle, delicate photographs. You’re right, they do have the soft quality of water colors. (Which makes me think of how long it’s been since I took out my brushes and let some paint transform a soggy page). There is so much here to nourish the soul – both in your photography and your writing. I want to sit with it and soak it up. I love the title of your post and how it suggests the dynamism of ourselves. Always the same, never the same. Both constricted by time and timeless. Kind of like your pictures. I’m also holding onto the message that an aching heart is hungry for the light. Yes. Thank you!

Oh my goodness, Lulu, I’m so glad this one spoke to you. 🙂 And I love what you see in it: the dynamism. The shifting and the timelessness. Yes. So true of each of us. Love that. ❤

Both/and is one of my favorite things to think about. Time and timelessness is another. I love that we are always the same and never the same. I think what I love the most is how perplexing and confounding it is to my simple, human mind. It reminds me that I am not the master of the universe and I do not have to have it all figured out. Your pictures definitely brought me there. Hope you have a beautiful week with its own little share of magic and mystery.

It’s so funny, Lulu, but so often I think we really are kindred spirits. 🙂
I’ve always been a not-so-black-&-white thinker, and a little bit allergic to dichotomies. Pragmatic people sometimes havens hard time with my happy insistence that two mutually exclusive things can, actually, be true at he same time of that a range of thought between two poles might all be worth considering.
It makes me a bad decision-maker, but also compassionate and content and sometimes a little bit of an everyday mystic.
You too, I bet. 🙂
