The beginning of something good …

I don’t know about you, but summer brings me to life: the honey-colored light and the slow silken heat. The sight of children let loose for the holidays, running barefoot in fresh-cut grass.

On the greenest of summer’s days, I feel like running barefoot, too.

I’ve spent the past several days celebrating the beginning of all that. There were twelve of us bedded down in a giant cabin in the Smokies, laughing and screeching, reveling in the heat and the mountain air and the goodness of human company. And it seems like the right time to simply drop in here and say: I’m grateful.

The first day back from such a beautiful holiday is always hard, but I thought I’d begin with a simple snapshot I caught from the car window on the road home:

As we re-enter our ordinary lives today, let’s not forget to find the magic there, too.

It’s summer.

The world is alive and shimmering with warmth.

The winter is a distant memory.

And the future is full of possibility…

Hope you’re celebrating, too. ❀

  1. What a beautiful happy post. Here in Australia it’s almost the start of winter but today the sun is shining and the sky is a brilliant blue so I’m not complaining. Have a lovely week Ashley. β™₯β™‘

  2. Beautiful post! It captures what I am feeling at the moment, too. I’m on a bit of a holiday, taking a week off from work, and am at *home* in the house where I grew up. The first thing I noticed was the rhododendrons! They’re everywhere in New England right now with their great, full, round bunches of blossoms. It’s been years since I’ve seen them in bloom. I am delighting in the transformation that is gently washing over me. I know it will be hard to go back to the Midwest and work at the end of the week, but I am reveling in these little moments right now. Wishing you a smooth transition and a continued sense of peace and joy as summer continues to blossom. πŸ™‚

    1. I can’t even tell you how happy this comment made me, Lulu!! Nothing like being really and truly at home …

Enjoy those rhododendrons… The mountains here will be full of the wild ones soon, and I’ll surely think of you. πŸ™‚

    1. You know, I had so much fun I forgot to take a picture of the cabin … Hmmm… I’ll have to see if anyone else in the gang snapped one.

P.S. Your typed Southern accent is really something. πŸ˜‰

      2. PS. Add to that the fact that when I landed in “Tuscalooser, Alabamer”, I thought I spoke English, but for the first three weeks I couldn’t understand half of what people were sayin’. 😦
